According to the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), my four letters are INFP. As an INFP, I am more interested in saving the world versus saving myself. INFPs are idealistic people that want to help other people in anyway that they can. We are people that base our life decisions off of our feelings and make choices according to our “gut feeling”. As an INFP, we are always searching for questions that we don’t have the answer to because we want to know the truth about everything. Once we set a goal, we do whatever it takes to reach the goal no matter what. Because we don’t show our emotions as much, people confide in us because we are good listeners and make people feel comfortable. As INFPs we like to avoid any confrontations or fights, but if we do we focus more on how we feel about the situation, no matter who’s right or who’s wrong.
Some of our weaknesses include the fact that sometimes we can be seen as irrational or illogical because we don’t care about the outcome of conflicts, only on how it affects us personally. We don’t like to deal with numbers and data and some people may think that we are too idealistic because there’s always a thought running through our mind. With us being so idealistic and caught up in our beliefs it may be a little difficult for us to accept criticism well because we tend to take things personally that we do not agree with. In hopes of being perfect sometimes we do not gives ourselves enough credit when we do good and if we feel as if something isn’t our fault we’re very quick to blame other people for the problem.
Of all the other personality types we as INFP are the most “well-rounded” people. We get along with most people because of our personalities. People that are of the INTJ personality type give us some problems because they are more rational and logical than we are. They are the type to believe that “we’ll all die one day” rather than cry at a funeral. INTJs are more personal and don’t too much care about other people, which is the complete opposite of an INFP. As an INFP we want the world to know and care about what we’re thinking or feeling but as an INTJ, the world only knows what they need to know and they will tell them more if they feel that they are worthy of knowing more. Both INFPs and INTJs have the natural leadership trait that will cause them to sometimes bump heads but because of the INFPs emotional role they won’t have many confrontations but they will know how we feel about the situation.
From this, I have learned that I am a very idealistic and loyal person. My goal in life is to help other people to better themselves because I feel as though I am someone that can teach them life’s goals and they’ll be able to learn from the person that I am. I’m a very family-oriented person, which probably explains the reason that I never miss out on family vacations or reunions because I love to be surrounded by the people that love me. My loyalty and kind spirit are the reasons that people feel they can talk to me about anything and everything, even people that do not know me very well. We are usually the calm people in a crisis and we’re always the ones that look for a solution instead of dwelling on a problem. I have also learned that not everyone is alike and some may not like the way that I think because they consider me to be more of a dreamer than someone that will take initiative when in reality, I’m more of a leader that doesn’t let anything get in the way of me accomplishing a goal.
With my personality type of being an idealist there are many career paths that I could fall into such as being a writer, a psychologist/psychiatrist, or someone that does religious work. Because of my interest in the greater good and of helping people being in a leadership position such as a teacher or a counselor lets me help students directly with whatever problems they may be having. My nurturing personality and interest in people makes me want to better anyone that I can and being a teacher, writer, counselor, or psychologist lets me get into the minds of other people and show them that they can be anything that they put their minds to.
We all have different personality types, which leads us to live different lives and to be our own people. Though this is true, we all live in the same world and abide by the same rules. The ideas of an INFP are to work together so we can all cross the finish line together and being in the presence of INFPs will get you there because they won’t let you give up. The world will be a better place with the help of INFPs all over. We will lead each other to help as many people as we can because our lifelong goal and dream is to see everyone working together in peace and harmony.
