Queen Victoria hosted an exhibition of the current technologies of the world. Many countries were represented but by far the majority of the materials were from Britain. The top place of Britain among inventions and new technologies lasted until the turn of the century. By 1901 the United States passed Britain who then fought Germany for second place. Leading up to the same year, the entire nineteenth century recalls the explosion of the population of Britain. It grew to 37 million people in 1901 and contributed to a difficult state of life and work. The cities now were almost overpopulated and could not maintain the growth in population. Furthermore, the increase in labor decreased the standards of work and wages. But more importantly, technology replaced people. In the example of the power loom, we see man or woman power replaced by the efficiency of technology.

This contributed to the industrial revolution, where technology and economic power produced a massive increase in materials, businesses, and trade. Britons witnessed new inventions like the steam boat and coal powered trains. These enabled people to travel but also companies to trade with other groups of Britons and other countries. Then we see overseas trade. Having always possessed a strong Navy, Britain turned it sea forces for economic gain. They traded substantially with the United States and other countries. This introduced many new products into the lives and economies of Britain.

Finally we see the perfection of the steam engine, due to the refinement of metals like iron, and the expansion of the train industry. This the revolution that was once local infiltrated the nooks and crannies of the entire country, as the interactive game demonstrates. Industrialization continues today, as we find computers and web-based programs connecting more people and businesses than ever before. I find it overwhelming at times, as the information and opportunities appear almost endless.
