Battery is a criminal offence that is seen in most homes and even on the streets. This involves unlawful physical contact and assault. This is the use of force against another which may result in physically harm. Statutes govern Battery cases and the law of specific jurisdiction determines its extremes. This type of crime should be prevented especially in the young people. Therefore, investing in their life skills is very important thus reduces the chances of them being involved in criminal activities (Anderson, & Taylor, 2009).
Behavior patterns help predict future actions, hence helping in predicting future patterns. Offenders for such crimes should be taken to rehabilitation centers, and be advised on how to control their anger so as not to escalate agitation. Community service can also help in monitoring their progress as well as a jail sentence if the extend of the battery was too much. By constantly checking on their data base, the police can easily track an offender’s progress (Barthe, 2006).
Since the law enforcers relate to the neighborhoods demographics, it is easier for them to keep in touch with the victims and also monitor their security. Statistics in their database help them identify hotspots for such offences. Areas with heavy unemployment and poverty are prone to high cases of battery offences. Community patrols have helped in reducing these incidences by a good number. The society feels comfortable and at ease when they know that a law enforcer is close by (Anderson, & Taylor, 2009).
