President Trump is arguably America’s most controversial president in recent years. Trump gained popularity across America and the world from his unconventional way of doing things which most people referred to as un-presidential. Trump is on record saying that he is in politics to change America’s politics and not the other way round. However, it is evident that Trump’s intellectual consistency and performance has changed for the better.
For a larger part of his past, during party primaries and a few months leading to the elections, the president has been very vocal about certain issues like immigration. He has on many occasions come out as spiteful and racists. His insistence that President Obama is Kenyan and not American epitomizes his attitude towards immigrants and immigration in general (Oppenheim, 2017). However, ever since he took power, he seems to have taken up a more sober approach on most of these things.
Trump’s political approach has on most occasions created divisions. He however probably realized that as president you need to unite people and not divide them. The president has also probably come to the realization that policy formulation and implementation at a national level is not as easy as it seems. Though he remains optimistic in most of his plans including abolishing Obamacare, he has taken up a more level-headed approach to most of these plans. The travel ban, on the other hand has been blocked by the courts (Lovelace, 2017). The intellectual change can be attributed to the importance and responsibility of holding the office. Initially, trump’s approach to being president of the United States was simplistic. Upon assumption of office, however, reality has dawned that things are not as easy and rosy on the hot seat. As time goes by, I expect to see a better and different president intellectually.
