The ANOVA test was the hardest part of topics learned in class throughout the course. Thus, when preparing for the exams, I knew well that I needed to master the principles of the Analysis of variance to increase my chances of passing. The ANOVA encompasses a great deal of subtopics such as the t-test and the f-test that I did not understand well in class. Therefore, I set aside more time of my revision schedule for revisiting class notes and doing personal research on ANOVA. While revising this topic, I went through myriad statistical concepts such as the f-test and the t-test, which were important elements in the analysis of the variance.
Based on my research, I learned that the t-test is best suited for working the variances of two populations with different means. Moreover, in the process of my revision, I went further to learn how important the t-test was when it comes to hypothesis testing. I learned that one sample t-test can be used when comparing a sample mean to another target or hypothesized sample. In the analysis of the variance using a t-test, some concepts such as the t-distribution and degrees of freedom come up. Degrees of freedom in a sample can be increased by increasing the size its size. For example, if one has sample size of ten, they can increase their degrees of freedom by increasing the sample size to 15 or 20.
Therefore, the analysis of the variance helped sharpen my skills in various statistics topics learned in the class such as using the t-distribution tables, mastering the f-test, and hypothesis testing. By the time I finished revising the ANOVA, my confidence has risen because I felt ready to tackle the exam having mastered the most difficult part of course.
