Politicians continue to argue over whether or not global warming, also called climate change, is actually happening. While they argue, it continues to happen. That is the basis of science: whether you believe it or not, it continues to happen. This is one of the reasons why global warming is so important to me. Unfortunately, I recognize that many individuals do not believe it is true. Of even greater tragedy is that many of these individuals are in the position to influence it, either in a positive way or a negative way. If they fail to believe it is true, they fail to take action against it. This is most certainly impacting it in a negative way. Tragically, humans no longer have any time to waste on this issue. This is one of the reasons why it is so critically important to me, as it should be to everyone.
I was raised to respect the environment. My family recycled. We conserved water. Our house had many plants in it. They were not only beautiful decorations, but they also helped to clean the air. We went on nature walks and learned about the different types of plants and animals. My family believed that the environment and nature were not ours; we do not own the planet. Rather, we simply share the planet with many other species. Unfortunately, we are the ones who are destroying it. This is why global warming is importantly crucial to me. I recognize that with each passing decade, we are losing the opportunity to halt this. Eventually, humans will destroy the entire planet. It will no longer support our species and many other species.

It is easy to do things to help slow down global warming. One needs to conserve energy. One can plant trees and not waste paper. One can recycle the products one uses. Ideally, one should try to reuse objects; this option is even better than recycling. Reduce the use of objections is also a great option. Recycling, while a fantastic idea and effort, does require energy and will still produce some waste. However, if one reuses items, that saves this step. For instance, when a person goes to the grocery store, one is often given his or her purchases in a plastic, one-use bag. Most grocery stores doe have bins at the front of the store for recycling these bags. However, if a person carries a reusable bag, this is the better option. It can be reused multiple times before it needs to be cleaned or destroyed. This reduces the energy that is used for this item.

Unfortunately, older generations have not been as concerned with global warming, as a group. My generation now has to work twice as hard, at least, to help stop this problem. This is probably another reason why this is so important to me. I recognize the implications of now doing so, but also the implications of not having acted for so many decades. Global warming is not a new concept. It has been known as a problem to scientists for the last several decades. But still, politicians and leaders have merely sat around and debated the topic, rather than actually developing some solutions. The world no longer has time for meaningless debate and political rhetoric. The world needs action. With each passing day and week, the time to change the situation grows less and less at a rapid pace. Some believe that we may even be too late now. However, that is not an excuse for inaction and dragging of the collective global feet.

Global warming may be the force that ends life as we know it on the planet. Furthermore, humans would be responsible for this, and the loss of millions of species. While this problem has been known for decades, too many politicians and leaders have merely debated the scientific merits of the data. They have not chosen to act in any constructive manner. Because of this, I am passionate about the topic. I recognize its implications and recognize that the world will need leaders in this field. I intend to be one of these leaders.
