Social influences are elemental in determining the quality of health care service. These influences are caused by the gaps as a result of various alignments that exist in the society today. In the article ‘Health Equity through Action on the Social Determinants of Health: Taking up the challenge,’ Linda Reutter and Kaysi Kushner contend that there are various social disparities in the society that affect the level of service delivery in the health industry (Reutter & Kushner, 2010). Nursing professional practice has the obligation of ensuring that health services take up the task of ensuring that health services are offered to all people without any form of partiality or segregation. Reutter and Kushner argue that the disparities that are evident in the society today have developed progressively over the years along historical, economic, political and social orientations (Reutter & Kushner, 2010). The alleviation of these factors is very essential towards improving the quality of health services offered in the society.

The views of the authors in relation to the existence of health disparities is relevant in the industry today (Healthy People, 2014). The existence of health inequalities is defined by the differences that exist in the health status of different groups of people because of the inequalities in various characteristics that exist among the people in the society. This is one of the factors that affects the health outcomes along various perspectives in the society today. The social injustices are also a major influence of the demographic representation of the health experts in the industry and this is one of the major causes of the injustices.

One of the biggest sources of inequality manifested in the industry is the economic configurations of the society. The gap between the rich and the poor is widening in the society. This is also presented as one of the major sources of the health disparities. The systematic and cultural differences among these groups of people is evident in the health industry and this has led to the provision of poor health services. The poor people are the victims of the health-damaging behaviors that are evident in the society today because of their lack of capacity to manipulate various issues associated with healthcare. These individuals are exposed to stressful social conditions that are unhealthy to their lives which lead to inadequate access to public services and health attention. Moral of these individuals are not empowered and thus do not have the moral authority to defend their plight. The ultimate effect of these concerns is the fact that these individuals are predisposed to chronic health conditions that subjects them to higher risk of death (Reutter & Kushner, 2010).

A change in the structural and cultural orientation of the health industry is one of the most realistic and practical ways alleviating health disparities in the society today. The best way to achieve this is through the formulation and implementation of policies that can assist in identifying and mitigating the disparities (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2014). Health professionals and administrators should identify these factors in order for them to acquire regulations that can improve the health status in the society. Policies are very essential because they can guide the health professionals in protecting underprivileged people in the society as one of the ways of advocating equality (US department of Health and Human Services, 2014).

Nurses and other health professional have a personal obligation to enhance equality in the health industry. These individuals should promote the development of a culture that supports all groups of people in the society and in the health industry (US department of Health and Human Services, 2014). This can be through embracing all groups of people through advanced practice initiatives. The nursing organizations and unions should also support the individual nurses in their endeavors to protect the issues of the underprivileged people in the society through applying the ethical and moral protocols to enhance the integrity to humanity.
