If we conduct a survey of the most desirable places to visit in the world, a significant proportion of survey respondents in many countries may choose Paris on the top of their list. One reason for this is that Paris has gained a reputation for being a romantic city and in addition, it is also considered a city of rich cultural heritage. After all, the city has continued to inspire artists over the centuries whether painters, perfumers, fashion designers, or even chefs. While there is no substitute to actually visiting the city, a description of some of the most memorable experiences in Paris does give readers a good idea of what to expect and may even inspire them to plan a trip soon.

Just as Statue of Liberty is arguably the signature landmark of New York City, Eiffel Tower could be considered the signature landmark of Paris. But unlike Statue of Liberty, Eiffel Tower is visible from almost anywhere in the city due to its strategic location. One can visit the top of the tower through elevator but lines are long during busy tourist seasons. But the tower is majestic even if one is nearby it or under it. For those who want some exercise, there is elevator-free but also ticket-free option to go up the tower through stairs but given human limitations one can only go up so far. But climbing the stairs can be turned into a fun activity by enjoying views of the city at the same time. One of the secrets of Eiffel Tower that many who have not visited it don’t know is that the tower even has a café, museum, and restaurants with some of the best views one can imagine.

Anyone who watches movies may have noticed another famous landmark in Paris that usually appears as triangle-shaped glass structure to the passersby. This famous landmark is arguably also the most famous museum in the world and known to the world as Louvre. It’s extensive collection includes the most famous painting in the world, i.e. Leonardo Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa. The museum has such extensive collection that one needs days to really experience everything it has to offer, especially those who take time to examine each art piece. Among its noble collections is also a statue of Alexander The Great. One of my favorite exhibitions in the museum was about ancient Greek Gods such as Zeus and Athena. One of the greatest things about Louvre is that it is unforgettable yet extremely affordable with tickets under 10 Euros and tickets are even cheaper in the evening. Under-18 and disabled visitors get to visit for free which I believe should be a policy at most public places.

Anyone who visits Paris should not leave without experiencing its food culture. There is no shortage of restaurants in the city which sometimes seem to outnumber ordinary shops. Parisians do not seem to put the same emphasis on work that some in other mega cities like Tokyo and New York City etc. do. Instead, Parisians pride themselves on knowing the art of life which doesn’t only involve a delicate balance between work and life but also enjoy culture and arts including food and wine. One problem that may be faced by those with weak or no French language skills is that menus are often in French. Unless one understands what he wants to order or can speak French, it is advisable to choose a restaurant where the waiter understands some English and, thus, can explain menu items. Restaurants fall in all price ranges but certain types are more likely to be affordable such as bistros, creperies, cafes, and brasierres. In addition to French and European flavors, one can also easily find Mediterranean, Chinese, and Caribbean food since Paris has quite diverse population. Paris is also a Mecca for chocolate lovers and anyone visiting Paris should at least visit the city’s oldest chocolate shop named A la Mere de Famille. The shop has been in business since mid-18th century now and offers both classic and modern creations.

Those who love fashion dream their entire lives to pay visit to world-famous Avenue des Champs-Elysees where one finds a great number of fashion luxury stores. French even consider it the most beautiful avenue in the world and the good thing is that it is pedestrian friendly. The avenue is lined on both sides by trees which also serve to separate vehicles and pedestrian lanes on both sides.

One of the complaints made by tourists and which is quite true is that Parisians are rude and non-friendly. To some extent, non-friendly natives are not limited to Paris but may also be encountered in other major cities. But Parisians also tend to be rude because they consider themselves more cultured as compared to many other nationalities. Their nationalist pride is also a factor which is why they sometimes refuse to reply in English even if they may understand it a little. But there are places in Frances such as in the south where locals are friendlier.
Paris would have been perfect if only locals were friendlier but the city has so much to offer that even the rudeness of the locals doesn’t stop tourists from visiting the city in millions every year. The city is a great combination of modern and classic architecture. The city especially holds a great appeal for those who love arts and culture such as museums, food, music, and intellectual discussions.
