Theories in the field of nursing profession can be defined as sets of concepts or models, and they are attained through deducting and inductive reasoning processes (Alligood, 2013; Fawcett & Desanto-Madeya, 2012). In the context of the nursing process, nursing theories are essential since they act as the platforms or frameworks that guide the actions of nurses when caring for their clients. They are applied to guide nurses when practicing, learning, and researching (Alligood, 2013). For this paper, the benefits of the King’s Goal Attainment Theory would be analyzed from the perspective of nursing. The nursing model assists nursing professional view the process of offering care as a component of three systems that are an individual, interpersonal, and society.
Thus, for the nurse to achieve the desired goals, he or she must appreciate the roles played by interaction with clients, effective communication, time, perception, and personal space (Fawcett & Desanto-Madeya, 2012). Research has demonstrated that if a nurse and a client communicate in the best manner and focus on achieving a common goal, then the chances of attaining the objective are relatively high (Alligood, 2013). A nurse in the workplace concentrates on establishing the best rapport with the client with the goal of interacting and letting the patient feel that he or she in the best hands of a caregiver. The nursing model makes the nurse aware of the importance of the nurse-client interaction that could be impacted by other factors, such as perception, personal space, judgment, stress, and time. If unique goals are to be attained in the short-term or long-term, nurses attempt to address these factors, which implies that their relationships with their clients would improve significantly, and the process of giving care would aid the professional to work toward achieving the objectives in a professional manner (Fawcett & Desanto-Madeya, 2012).
