Change is important in any organization in the corporate environment. However, for a successful implementation of change in a company or an organization, it is important that procedures are laid down accordingly. These procedures often need good leadership which helps in collaborating and communicating with the necessary persons in charge of change. In the nursing environment, change is important as it helps improve in care given to patients in the long run. The paper summarizes change that occurred within the healthcare facility that was implemented successfully without any difficulties. Additionally, the paper looks at the importance of the change and the rationale for change.
As a nurse leader, I participated in a program that was meant to look at performance improvement among the staff members. During the program, I coordinated with other individuals to come up with a plan that would help reduce the long process that the veterans face whenever they needed to acquire primary care. Most veterans suffer from disorders during their active duty. As a result, they frequently need checkups which need to be quick since it is important that they return to their active duty. Veterans are thus to be allowed to contact the Audiology and Ophthalmology clinics directly whenever they need treatment. Resultantly, there will be enough time saved since there is no need to attend to the protocols of primary care (Batras, Duff, & Smith, 2014).
The change initiated was important as it helped the veterans contact the clinics directly rather than follow the normal procedures of the primary care. As a nurse leader, the change was important in reducing the amount of burden for leaders who can further concentrate on improving other services within the organizations. Patients are able to receive quality care once there are procedures removed and replaced with simple ones that can be tacked easily (Mitchell, 2013). The change was thus important in improving both patient and employee satisfaction in the long run which is important for enhancing a safer working environment.
The plan was to ensure that veterans are able to access Audiology and Ophthalmology clinics without having to attend to the procedural primary care appointments. The plan was successful as the veterans were issued with cards with numbers of the clinic. The veterans were thus able to access the clinics easily. The change was set forward were meant to reduce the number of procedures for the patients (Shirey, 2013). The change was thus of importance in reducing the patient waiting time and increased bookings of appointment through primary care. It is logical to understand that, for a healthcare facility to improve on the quality of services, patients are to be provided with minimal waiting time.
According to McAlearney et al., (2014), management of change requires a new set of leadership that would ensure that the plan put in place works effectively and efficiently. The change created in the healthcare facility would need for a creation of new procedures to look into the right channels to be followed while visiting the clinics. Proper management of the change in the healthcare facility will result to increased patient satisfaction besides improved staff satisfaction. Management of change thus requires coordination and leadership which will require adequate training and education of the subordinates.
In conclusion, the paper has shown the importance of change within a healthcare facility. Most companies and organizations are scared of change in one way or another. Their inability to adapt to change presents a barrier to growth and development in the long run. The change implemented in the healthcare organization saw improved quality of services provided to patients and the veterans. It is important to understand customer needs since the customers contribute positively to the growth of a business or organization.
