Jawbone Ruff is a suggested product for the Jawbone Corporation. This new technology both tracks canine activity, as well as monitors the health and wellness of dogs. While GPS tracking for dogs has been around since 2011 (Newstaff, 2014), Jawbone Ruff offers new technology that allows the consumer to incorporate their pets into their daily fitness routine by setting fitness goals for their canines as well. The following will discuss the following regarding Jawbone Ruff’s production plan.
Since Jawbone Ruff is a robust design, there are different tools and techniques needed for the production designed. First, quality function deployment will be used in order to obtain important customer input that is needed for a successful product design. Given the expense of Jawbone Ruff’s design, it is important for the corporation to get information regarding what the customers actually want. This will result in a more successful consumer product. Global data will be gathered to make sure Jawbone Ruff is successful throughout all applicable countries (Stevenson, 2015, p. 154).
Lean operations will be incorporated by finding the most cost efficient methods of reducing waste. As discussed later, Jawbone Ruff’s production line will focus on waste reduction. When it comes to operations, Jawbone will reduce production time by eliminating any “non-value-added operations” (Stevenson, 2015, p. 606). Lean services will be incorporated by focusing on waste as well. All waste will be collected and sorted in order to reuse any defective or worn out materials. Furthermore, the company will further reduce waste by recycling any materials that cannot be used in order to make new materials. By focusing on lean services and operations, Jawbone will see a decrease in the production costs associated with Jawbone Ruff (p. 606).
There are different considerations needed when it comes to sustainability of the production line. Jawbone is known to use quality materials when it comes to their production designs. Thus, the Jawbone Ruff production line will be dependent on remanufacturing (reusing). Specific departments will focus on how used products can be refurbished in order to replace defective or worn-out parts (Stevenson, 2015, p. 145). There are also specific efforts the corporation can take in order to minimize waste. In order to maintain remanufacturing to limit production costs, all waste will be separated and sorted to make sure none of the useable materials are being thrown out. All of the non-reusable waste will be properly recycled and melted down in order to make different parts (p. 146).
Jawbone Ruff’s production plan requires specific cultural, global, and human involvement. First, if Jawbone wants the product to be sold globally, then consumer data needs to be gathered from all the countries Jawbone Ruff will be sold in. Next, the cultural differences between the consumers and their data will need to be taken into consideration in order for the product to sell in high quantities throughout all countries. Since Jawbone Ruff will be a global product, global and cultural differences should be taken into considerations in order for the product to be successful.
Jawbone Ruff’s design can be expensive for the corporation, however, using specific techniques throughout the production line will help minimize costs for the organization. The organization should gain customer data regarding their wants prior to final production of the product. Furthermore, lean operations and services will be employed, focusing on waste reduction. Jawbone will reuse and recycle their waste in order to remanufacture old parts and make new ones. Overall, the product design and production plan should lower costs and increase sells for the organization.
