IT infrastructure is the composite software, hardware, services, and network resources required for, operations, management, and the existence of a business IT environment. It gives an organisation a chance to deliver services and IT solutions to its partners, employees or customers. Its deployment occurs within the owned facilities, and it is contained within the organisation. A normal IT infrastructure contains the following components: network, software, hardware, and meatware.
The IT infrastructure cannot be assumed to be support function. There is more need for the IT infrastructure to be on the same line with the business objective. The infrastructure should also be able to give an outcome that is important in the execution of business strategy more cost-effectively and faster. Through the integration of IT infrastructure, businesses are focused towards transformation so as to give a chance to more innovative ways of working. The systems also help to improve the business operations and create incremental changes (Liu, Chen, Zhu, Zhang & He 2013).
In my organisation, there is the full integration of IT, and this helps it to achieve both its long-term and short-term goals. Put in other words, the company cannot function without the use of IT systems. Thus, it depends on the IT infrastructure. From a critical perspective, I think that my firm has reaped huge benefits regarding strategic business objectives by the virtue of using well-designed IT systems. For example, to ensure that there are effective means of communicating from the top management to juniors, there is an effective IT system that supports these types of interactions.
The procurement office is linked to the accounts department so that all the transactions in the two sections of the firm can be assessed and monitored by managers. It is worth to mention that the top management can access data from various departments with the goal of using them to make strategic decisions that may positively affect the operations of the firm. For instance, the marketing team collects substantial data about customer dynamics that are analysed and executed by the top management to gain better more customers and achieve better sales in the future. Integration of the IT infrastructure has changed how the business is operating and how it is interacting with its business partners, employees, and customers.
My company has strongly embraced this form of e-business, which has made many business capture market opportunities and get high profits. The possibility of achieving this will be enabled through the use of supply chain management, customer relationship management, online trading applications. The survival of the business and its operation are greatly dependent on the IT infrastructure. This has made businesses to implement infrastructures that are able to proactively respond to unexpected and anticipated stresses and strains. The strains and stresses can be both negative and positive. They have the ability to reflect the man-made events, fluctuating market demand, natural disasters, and component failure (Liu et al. 2013).
Proper installation of these systems has helped the business to do away with the issues related to business disruptions. This has enabled the management to utilise market opportunities and improve the brand together with its reputation in the market. Not all business risks can be eliminated through the use of these systems, but they have been reduced, and they are less likely to affect the operations of the business. In fact, with the integration of many IT systems in the future, the management might reduce the risks by almost 100% in the future. The overall implication of this would be increased revenues and profits for the firm.
SaaS is a model that is related to software whereby the applications are hosted by the provider of a service or vendor, and provided to customers through a network, especially the internet. The prevalent delivery model of this approach is increasing. The Software as a Service approach has a benefit regarding easier administration. This means that the project manager may effectively execute his or her functions as is expected in the project. This will enable the project to run as it is expected; hence, achieving the objectives (Maurer, Brandic & Sakellariou 2013).
The adoption of the SaaS approach by the project manager may help him or her to customise project needs and features that might go a long way to attaining strategic business goals. For example, like the traditional customisation approach SaaS, a client may change the series of configuration options with the goal of affecting its functions and physical features. In addition, a project manager may have an opportunity of configuring customer values based on predefined sets of attributes. Due to its accelerated feature delivery, the approach could be utilised by the project manager to achieve better updates and more updates vis-à-vis the project. In fact, it is advisable for projects to be assessed and monitored either on a weekly or monthly basis.
The advantage of the frequent monitoring approach is that it helps to detect issues before they can result in major losses in the project. Use of the system by a project manager can allow or patch management and automatic updates. Patch management entails getting, testing, and instaling a number of codes to the computer system that is being administered. The project manager has the ability to maintain the best patches, choosing the updated new ones that may affect the project positively, and instaling the good ones. This approach gives the project manager a global accessibility.
This can help the manager get any information relating to ways of carrying out the project well, or the manager can compare the project with one that was carried out in another different part of the world, but have some similarity with the current project. This method will enable the project manager to achieve the objectives of the project. The overall goal of using the SaaS platform in the management of projects across the world is that managers can use the best IT tools to achieve the best outcomes within the deadlines.
