Being a half-Saudi and half-Persian, I became conscious of cross-cultural issues at an early age. At the same, I also developed a fascination with world cultures because my own life experiences taught me that cross-cultural exposure helps one expand his thinking horizon. We are living in a world which is increasingly being shaped by forces of globalization. In addition, internet has made it easier and convenient to learn about other cultures as well as the political, economic, and social issues prevalent in different parts of the world. Insights like these as well as my own experiences have inspired me to pursue graduate studies in International Relations.

I have no doubt I will be a great fit into the program because my academic and co-curricular track record speaks for itself. I completed my undergraduate degree in Business Administration from Arab Open University with an impressive GPA which allowed me to win academic scholarship from King Abdullah Al-Saud Program to pursue my graduate studies in the U.S. I believe we all have responsibility to make difference in the society which is why I have always been active in community service programs. In 2012, I taught kindergarten kids in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia for six months as an English Assistant Teacher. I have also volunteered for Khobar, Saudi Arabia-based Breast Cancer Foundation. Similarly, I have also worked with Kids Diabetes Association in Khobar, Saudi Arabia. My volunteering experience also includes working with Rawabi Holding Talent Exhibit where I mentored youth to decide upon a future career.

A career in International Relations requires one to be wholly committed to learning about other cultures and one of the most effective ways to learn about other cultures is through language. I am fluent in Arabic and Persian and my English language skills have also improved at an impressive pace. The progress I have made in acquiring English language skills demonstrates my attitude towards learning. Even before I came to the U.S., I had studied English at Manama, Bahrain-based American Culture Education Center. After moving to the U.S., I again opted for ESL program at the University of North Texas. Even though I am already fluent in three languages, I plan to learn more languages because a language is a window into another culture.

A successful career in International Relations doesn’t only require strong cross-cultural skills but also proficiency in other soft skills such as teamwork, communication, leadership, and time management. One of my work experiences occurred at Saudi Aramco’s Public Relations Department where I interacted with not only locals but also international stakeholders. I especially got the position due to my communication, language, and cross-cultural skills and in addition, I also had strong business academic background.

After completing my graduate studies in International Relations, I intend to work with international human rights organizations. I am a huge believer in education and social reforms and my pacifist views have convinced me that the key to global peace and prosperity are educational revolution and economic and social reforms. Geographical boundaries are becoming increasingly relevant now and global prosperity in poor and developing countries benefits everyone. My faith in the power of education has also been affirmed by legendary Nelson Mandela who claimed, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” I would especially focus on youth and young people because the future of our world rests on their shoulders. I have always believed each coming generation should improve upon the previous generation because this is what the historical trend has been on the average.

I have no doubt I will bring huge value to the program, due to my academic, co-curricular, and especially cross-cultural background. I hope I will positively inspire people to work towards creating a world where peace and progress reign supreme.
