Some members of the Parker family show signs of suicide. In particular, Stephanie, daughter, 48, is at the highest risk of suicide. Stephanie’s wellbeing has improved in recent years thanks to the prospect of getting a promotion. However, Stephanie is becoming increasingly dissatisfied with her life due to constant arguments with her mother. Sara, mother, 72, might develop signs of suicide if she fails to improve her relationships with her daughters. Jane, daughter, 45, does not show signs of suicide because she has distanced herself from Sara and Stephanie.
Stephanie
Stephanie, 48, female, is a risk of suicide. Suicide is a significant and increasingly common cause of death (Miranda-Mendizábal et al., 2017). Stephanie has been hospitalized for depression three times in the past 4 years.
Stephanie had attempted to end her life. She thinks that her family was not supportive enough. According to Miers, Abbott, Springer (2012) suicide has devastating effects on the family system. Thus, individuals attempting suicide are in much need of family support.
Stephanie feels like she can no longer live in the same apartment with her mother because her home is becoming less clean and less habitable. Moreover, Stephanie and Sara argue all the time. Their arguments may involve the use of force. Stephanie may attempt suicide unless her living conditions improve.
Sara
Sara has problems with physical health including high blood pressure, hyperthyroidism, being underweight, as well as signs of dementia. If Stephanie finds a place of her own to live, Sara would be exposed to a high threat of living alone because she may have dementia. Sara does not have family support: she is increasingly arguing with Stephanie and is estranged from Jane.
Sara suffers from compulsive hoarding. While Stephanie wants to get rid of the things Sara has hoarded, Sara wants to keep everything. Hoarding is a primary reason for their arguments. Moreover, Sara has stopped taking her medicine.
