Question One
The authors wrote the article to create awareness of the dangers of smoking and its impact on global heath. The article is important because it intends to improve the health and welfare of people in the United States and different parts of the globe by stopping smoking and increasing taxes in predominant regions. The purpose of the study is to determine the prevalence rates of tobacco abuse across the globe through collecting primary and secondary data and information. The article states that in the 20th century alone, there have been more than 100 million deaths from tobacco smoking. These alarming rates have increased over the years thereby compromising the health of the entire society (Prabhat, et al. 2014, pg 1-3).
Question Two
The people who took part in the study were both male and female and from different age demographics. The sample size of the participants was 25 people of who were selected randomly. Participants were asked to offer their opinion on smoking and the implications it has on them. The researchers used various methods of collecting information so as to get a comprehensive report on the issue at hand. Some of the techniques they used in collecting data involved sampling, the use of questionnaires, and interviews. This was combined with the collection of primary research in hospitals and the analysis of secondary research (Prabhat, et al. 2014, pg 10).
Question Three
The results of the study show that the issue of smocking poses a challenge to the health and sustainability of the society. For example, in the US alone, an average smoker consumed 1 and 4 cigarettes per day in 1910 and 1930 respectively. This shows that the prevalence rate of smocking has been on the rise not withstanding its stabilization in 1950. Despite this, the country still has a lot to do with regard to creating awareness of the dangers associated with smoking. The variables in the research changed the study by providing new factors such as new figures in terms of population, age and, number of smokers. In turn, the research has shown that cigarette smoking has been stabilized (Prabhat, et al. 2014, pg 22).
Question Four
The discussion section explains that there has been significant change in the prevalence rate from the 1900s to the 2000s. The findings are significant because they explain the rate at which research and reviews on the issue at hand have created awareness on the hazards associated with smoking. The findings show that the trend is slowly reducing because of the increase of a health conscious society. This means that practitioners are improving their communication with the community on how to deal with the issue. The information found in the study should be used to educate the public on the causes and effects of cigarette smoking on all aspects of life (Prabhat, et al. 2014, pg 29).
Question Five
The article has influenced my behavior and perspectives on smocking. It will help me educate more people on factors pertaining to smoking and its overall impact on communal growth. I will change my plans to improve the way in which I relate with persons addicted to smoking and tobacco. The article has taught me how to maintain a healthy lifestyle by consuming only health foods and beverages. As such, it will help me improve my quality of life and approach to living a healthy lifestyle (Prabhat, et al. 2014, pg 55).
