Chapter 1: Science and politics are both interrelated within our society seeing that in order for politicians to build their foundation and stances within the political world, they need some form of science to back it up. They need evidence, facts (falsified or no), studies that back up their causes in order to gain the trust and votes of the masses. In order to prevent and be able to further progress within the public health sector, both politics and science need to work together in order for new reforms and protocols to be enacted, as stated in the film.

Chapter 2:
Health is controversial because there are so many different methods and theories by different people about how to go about handling it. Some people wanna suppress and treat different health issues with drugs whereas others believe that talk therapy or some form of therapy is better. There are so many different ways to go about curing and helping different health problems that it causes controversy within our society. In reality, there is no right or wrong way to treat health if it is all backed up by logic and science and has the people’s thoughts and needs in mind. An example in the film would be in the beginning when the nurse is bandaging the child’s arm. The man states that in our society, a way that we treat medicine is to suppress it and basically put a bandaid on it. While controversial to others, it is a form of treatment within our healthcare system.

Chapter 3:
The government holds a lot of power when it comes to the healthcare system. They hold a majority of the power and an determine just based off a few basic factors how our health system will progress. An example of this in the film would be at the 7:04 timestamp where it is stated how much money is spent on healthcare a year within different countries. The government controls how much money is spent on the healthcare system and has the ability to either hinder or help the system as a whole.

Chapters 9-10:
Infectious diseases are one of the prime problems in underdeveloped countries and if left untreated they can spread around the world. Millions of people die yearly because of the lack of cures or immune defense system from these infectious diseases like malaria, ebola, swine flu, etc. An example of this in the film would be where it is stated that countries that are more underdeveloped or considered “third world countries” tend to suffer more because they lack the medication or resources to fight against these diseases

Chapters 11-12:
Chronic or genetic diseases are, like infectious diseases in underdeveloped countries, one of the prime concerns within more developed countries like the United States. Because of the genetic predisposition of a lot of citizens, cures aren’t always at the rady and a lot of the time scientists rely on different studies in order to figure out exactly what causes what and how they can cure it. An example of this would be at the 52:49 timestamp within the film that states about how studies have shown that exercise can help the fight against cancer

Chapters 13-14:
Social and behavioural health play a key role in the overall health of a person because, for example, in the film there was talk about implementing acupuncture within the American health system. However, 15 years later, even though there had been studies and tests showing how acupuncture helped outbound patients, people were skeptical and it was never implemented. It was never implemented because people were still skeptical and didn’t believe, even though there had been tests and studies, that acupuncture would help a patient. Another example from the film would be that after a heart surgery, the patients tend to change their overall behaviour. They go running, change their diets, etc, because in their minds that’s what’s going to keep them healthy and alive. They change their behaviours based off of the recommendations of their doctor or physician.

Chapter 26-27:
The medical care system within America is flawed. An example from the film would be at the 1:05:12 timestamp where it is stated that getting Medicare implemented into the American medical care system is one of the hardest things to do because there is so much controversy and opposition. Those who don’t want it implemented fight and do everything in their power to keep it from being within the system while those who do fight just as hard.
