A grocery store is a retail store that largely sells food. Grocery stores normally offer non-perishable goods. However, some have fresh produce, bakeries, delis and butchers. Supermarkets are large groceries that offer non-food products such as household items and clothing. In the American market, convenience stores and supermarkets are at times called grocers or grocery business. Small grocery stores which sell mainly vegetables and fruits are known as Greengrocers n Britain and in the US it is called produce markets. Emergence of hypermarkets and large supermarket has steadily reduced the number of grocery stores in the United States. Some small stores are still struggling to hold to the market by selling unique, premium quality products. In addition, they have incorporated ethnic food to attract new customers as well. Grocery stores offer a roof where a person can pick his or her grocery under one roof and reminds me of my grandfather’s farm.
The retail scene at Laguna Niguel is changing constantly. Wholesome choice is a grocery chain located in Aliso Roads and La Paz in Laguna Niguel. The grocery store opened last year august after the previous tenant vacated the building in July. The grocery is situated on a 5,100 square foot land. The store is twice the size of its counterpart Irvine. The store offers a large variety of organic and global foods in the form of grocery items and hot fare. On one isle, I saw that it offers a large selection of vegan, organic and gluten free foods. The reason as for that arrangement is so that customers would not run into each other. Wholesome grocery store in addition offers a blend of Asian, kosher and eastern fare. Goods which are highly perishable have been kept on cooling system and are on the lower decks.in addition, the good which are heavy such as watermelon has been placed on the lower decks far from the entrance of the grocery store. Conversely, I noticed that there is a baby isle where children are kept as they shop.

I noticed that the store employs 10 people who control the activities of the store. Near the door are two cashiers who record every goods that has been bought. In addition to the two cashiers I saw there are two attendants who pack the customers purchases to speed up operations. One employee is outside and control the way the car are packed and those that are leaving and at the same time ensuring safety of the customers belongings. Three other employees are along the isle checking how the vegetables are handled and placed. They also give advice to the customers concerning the vegetables and fruits available in the store. The store has a well-functioning cooling system in order to keep temperatures low. Such a measure helps the vegetables and fruits from being able to rot. I observed that the store is busy during the evening starting from five up to 9pm where customers in the store reduce.

The store fresh produce reminds me of the farm at my grandpa’s place. The farm has a lot of vegetables and fruits. The baby isle however destroys the memories because of smell of the children’s diapers. The smell of the diapers reminds me of my younger sibling as he grew up. It brings some nostalgic feelings nearly making me cry. The carts that are used to transport the shopping have a rickety sound and it reminds me about the gym. Although I rarely go to the gym, the sounds are nearly similar. I always feel like going to shop in this grocery because it reminds me of so many things in my life even if the baby smell kills me. It is a nice place and I will always shop there as long as it will be open.

Grocery stores are dwindling in number in the United States. The few that remain are expanding to include non –food materials. It is sad because people already have that in hypermarkets. Although to some, hypermarket offers many more things to shop, other people prefer grocery store because of the high quality products. It will be good if these stores don’t close down but remain the way it is and only sell food products to serve the people who don’t want to get the pressure of waiting in a hypermarket or supermarket line.
