The field of medicine has been a major interest to me since I was relatively young and when it came to choosing a major, the choice of pursuing nursing came to me naturally. I find the thought of taking care of others very intriguing and embarking on this career path will enable me to improve myself seeing as I have always been a caring and patient person. I know that nursing can be demanding and challenging, but the satisfaction and fulfillment that comes with the job is quite rewarding. Over the years, my interest in the medical field has evolved tremendously. Each experience has equipped and enriched me with a broad range of knowledge with each experience bringing me closer to my focus of being a family nurse practitioner. It is, for this reason, that I would like to pursue a degree in Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) because it would give me a chance to develop both my leadership and advocacy skills as well as clinical knowledge.
Being a DNP would enable me to deliver care to those who need it most while at the same time improving my critical thinking skills. It will give me a chance to be a good leader with knowledge of political policies, the core aspects required to advocate and create changes in the healthcare sector at all levels. I feel that this degree course will equip and develop my knowledge and skills so that I can care for underserved individuals. My personal goal has always been to provide quality healthcare to all members of the community, and this program will present me with the access to the broader community. I will also be able to help these disadvantaged patients to advocate for their health rights by educating them on the importance of healthcare and how to access it.
Upon completion of my degree, I plan on working with the community and non-profit agencies so that I can help disadvantaged populations within the community to improve their access to quality healthcare. I will also use knowledge from my academics to analyze the cultural, economic, social, environmental and policy components of healthcare so that I can reduce health disparities and improve health outcomes. I will provide a variety of services to people of all ages by making sure that they have access to cost-effective, ethical, culturally competent, and quality care in healthcare settings. I will offer services especially to people who face disparities in health care quality among racial and ethnic minority groups.
My professional goals align with the outcomes and skills that I will acquire from a doctor of nursing degree. This degree will equip me with public management skills which are important when it comes to providing healthcare for populations in these communities. I have always had an interest in advocating for people who do not receive quality health care based on low income, ethnicity, and race. I also want to bridge these gaps that continue to persist in health care quality among such underserved communities. I, therefore, believe myself to be a great fit for the chance of being admitted to undertake a degree in DNP. This is because I am motivated by a deep appreciation of the vast knowledge acquired from the course.
A doctorate in nursing practice will help me improve and measure outcomes of healthcare on different communities. I will be not only able to treat individuals but also large groups of people meaning I will be able to impact people’s lives through their life span. Acquiring this degree program will, therefore, act as an advantage to the healthcare industry considering the current healthcare environment.
