Modern technology is widely accepted as having great positive impacts on people and institutions as seen in the utilization of highly effective lifesaving medications as well as enhancement of business processes and chances for success, among other impacts. Relatedly, computers are central to the processes and outcomes achieved by modern technology and the choice to purchase one should be based on consideration of elements such as cost, usage, screen size, quality and functionality. This paper compares and evaluates the Acer Aspire V3-571 personal computer (PC) model against the Dell Inspiron 17-3721 laptop computer so as to identify the best deal between the two. The Acer Aspire V3-571 laptop provides the best deal in terms of low cost, high quality and best functionality in relation to Dell Inspiron 17-3721 whose specifications feature a higher cost, average quality and average functionality.
Acer Aspire V3-571 versus Dell Inspiron 17-3721
Beginning with price, Dell Inspiron 17-3721 offers a better deal at $450 compared to Acer Aspire V3-571’s $565 even though the other specifications indicate Acer’s price as justified and hence Acer having the better deal. Generally, the Acer Aspire V3-571 specifications as presented by Morris (2012) feature a 2.6 kilogram weight, a 15.6 inch panel size, an LCD screen with a maximum resolution of (1366 x 768), a 2.5 gigahertz Intel Core i5 processor and 2450 RAM memory and 6 gigabytes of memory which runs on DDR3 memory. On the other hand, the Dell Inspiron 17-3721 runs on an Intel Core i3-3227U processor with 4GB of memory, Intel High Definition Graphics 4000, 500GB of storage riding on a 5,400rpm hard drive, a 17.3-inch display featuring a 1,920 by 1,080 resolution as presented by Santo Domingo (2013). Quality is also assessed on the basis of higher functionality with regards to specific elements such as processing speed, among others, as explained below.
Quality-wise, the Acer Aspire V3-571 features a maximum resolution of 1366 x 768, which is optimal for High Definition viewing as opposed to Dell Inspiron 17-3721 which has a 1,920 by 1,080 resolution, which would show less defined multimedia files and thus not the best deal. Additionally, considering that the processing speed of a computer determines how fast and efficient a laptop can be, Acer Aspire V3-571 specifications which includes a 2.5 gigahertz Intel Core i5 processor as opposed to Dell’s Intel Core i3-3227U processor shows the former as the best deal. As such, Dell Inspiron 17-3721 has a low processing speed that would lower the level of functionality while that of Acer Aspire V3-571 would be more than Dell’s and hence Acer comes up as the better deal. The high level of overall functionality of Aspire V3-571 however provides the strongest support for it being the best deal.
Thirdly, the addition of Bluetooth 4.0 and An Acer Crystal Eye HD webcam for Acer Aspire V3-571 increases the laptop’s overall functionality as opposed to that of Dell Inspiron 17-3721 which does not have these elements. The 4GB memory highlights a potential higher level of functionality for Dell Inspiron 17-3721 over the Acer Aspire V3-571, which has 2450 MB memory but its 2.5 gigahertz Intel Core i5 processor reduces any advantage that Dell could boast. Other elements between the two laptops indicate similar levels of functionality as both have Wi-Fi that covers 802.11a, b, g and n, VGA and HDMI output, DVD writer and both USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports. All in all, the Acer Aspire V3-571 comes out as providing the best deal in terms of the level of functionality compared to that of Dell Inspiron 17-3721.
Conclusion
In summary, the reason for purchasing a specific type of computer, that is, in terms of the intended use, should be the most important element to be considered before buying a computer as this would enable the buyer to choose the most suitable regardless of their strengths. For instance, if a user needs a computer excellent for gaming, the of Acer Aspire V3-571 would be optimal because of high processing speed while for entertainment like watching movies would require using the Dell Inspiron 17-3721. Therefore, in terms of cost, quality and level of functionality, the Acer Aspire V3-571 provides the best deal even though its counterpart, the Dell Inspiron 17-3721, also has some high points.
