It was quite a surprise to hear from Mark Benner that the Chamber had selected me as the Municipal Employee of the Year. Actually, it was a lot more than just a surprise; I was in a state of utter disbelief and almost sure that either I had misheard Mark or the Chamber must have made a mistake to select me from the entire city. Mark assured me it was exactly what I heard in the first place. You have to pardon me for my initial reaction because I do not really standout in a city of numerous people with unrivaled work ethics and deep sense of community citizenship. I have, indeed, engaged in community service activities but so have most of the people I proudly call colleagues. Like countless hardworking people, I wake up everyday to come to work and try to do my job to the best of my ability.I have lost count of those who have helped me grow at personal and professional level over the decades. Some of the best people I have met in life happen to work with me at the city hall. I have felt from day one that I am part of a work family. We help each other succeed support those who may lag behind. All of us have good and bad moments and it is a comforting thought to know that we are in this together. I could not have come this far without my work family, and I would not have become this person without the wisdom they have imparted to me over time.
I would also like to express my gratitude to the city council. The city council has given me tremendous professional opportunties during more than 28 years of service as a city clerk. They have supported my endeavors without fail and I truly appreciate their faith in me. My experiences have convinced me that a strong support system is essential to a rewarding career.
It is with humility and great pride that I accept this award. I would also like to dedicate this award to dedicated and hardworking people who set perfect examples of selfless service to the city on a daily basis. It has been a privilge to serve the citizens of Eloy for more than 28 years, and I hope I have lived up to their expectations. Once again, I thank Eloy Chamber of Commerce for selecting me as the first recipient of the Municipal Employee of the Year Award. It is an honor I will cherish for the rest of my life. Thank you.
