I am writing you regarding affordable college education. This is a very important issue for me as a student. I am impressed that you and your family were able to make sure you had so little in student loan debt to pay upon graduation. I am hoping to complete my studies with little debt. I also hope that my education affords me employment opportunities to quickly repay my debts. The Working Students Act you support is an important piece of legislation. I want to express my gratitude for your work on this important issue.

Another key piece of you education plan that I find admirable is the Flexible Pell Grant for 21st Century Students Act. The ability to use a Pell Grant for summer semesters is very important to students who must take lighter course loads in order to work and pay expenses. This way, students can still get in the needed course hours per year while spreading the time across extra summer semesters.

Finally, your efforts to keep California colleges affordable is wonderful. I appreciate that you advocated against the five year plan to raise tuition. Helping to keep tuition in check makes education possible for so many more students. Raising tuition so much, so quickly, could make it impossible for many students to complete their studies.

Thank you for all of your work toward the issue of affordable education. Without your continued efforts, many students would not be able to reach their goals of college degrees.
