Helen Keller, a famous U.S. political activist and the first deaf-blind woman to get the Bachelor of Arts degree, once said, “I cannot do everything, but I can do something. I must not fail to do the something that I can do” (Helen Keller in Senna, 2010, p.29). I think for every person who wishes to achieve something in their lives these words should become the key motto. We cannot succeed in many things, but we can invest all our efforts into achieving our major goals. As for me, my principal goals for the period of ten years from now are to earn my Master of Criminal Justice degree, set up my own security company, and build a happy family.
Earning a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice is my educational goal for the given period. While some people would say that it is enough to complete the undergraduate studies to build a successful career related to criminal justice and that the advanced degree in Criminal Justice is worth neither cash nor time, I’d say the opposite. In my opinion, if a person has seriously decided to pursue a career related to criminology and plans to succeed in it, the Master’s degree is necessary and is certainly worth it. In my case, I plan to set up and manage my own security firm, which means I will have to be well-equipped with professional knowledge. Hence, my goal is to get the advanced degree.
My second goal is to start my own security company and successfully develop it. While for many running a security company may seem a complex task, with lots of rigorous checks and legal hassle, I am not afraid of challenges and look forward to arranging everything in a top-notch fashion. Within 10 years from now, I will have a firm educational background and enough experience to run my own security firm and my childhood dream will come true.
Lastly, within 10 years from now I plan to build a happy family with a person who will be my forever friend and the love of my life. As my Grandpa once said, “A happy family is the one with many children”. Well, in 10 years’ time, I aim to have at least one or two kids. Also, I plan to fill the atmosphere in my family with love and understanding, so that everyone feels valued and respected.
In a nutshell, I do not have many goals to accomplish in the period of 10 years. But these goals are rather accurate and practical. First of all, I need to earn my Master’s degree in Criminal Justice, start my security company, and build my own happy family. Hopefully, I will!
