Determinism is the view that all events have a complete casual cause. It is a philosophical idea that every state of affairs or event including the decisions and actions of human beings is inevitable. Free Will is the ability of a person to originate thoughts and behavior spontaneously. Free will is simply a person’s motives, a person’s desires and tendencies to do thing that we want in the way we want. Free will and determinism is thought to be an inconsistent set of statements. Determinism is where every event has an explanation. Incompatibilism state that determinism undermines free will. It projects that a person can have both determinism and at the same time have free will. It is the view that determinism world is at complete odds with the notion of free will; a dichotomy exists between the two and a person must choose only one.
There are three possible responses that arise from inconsistent set of statements. If a person rejects the determinism, he is called Libertarianism. The first set of inconsistent set is where a person rejects determinism but believe that incompatibilism is true. However, they believe that there is free will. A person that rejects that there is free will is referred to as a hard determinist. The second inconsistent set is where a person rejects that there is free will. The last inconsistent set of statement is where a person rejects incompatibilism. These kinds of people are referred to as compatibilists.

People who are hard determinist and those individuals who are compatibilist believe in determinism. However, they both differ on the outcomes in regard to free will. Compatibilists argue that man is only free if his will is one of the steps to casual chain. Hard determinism does not believe in free will because they only accept that there is determinism and free will cannot exist. Knowing that compatibilists believe in the two, it is evident that they believe determinism exist and at the same time believe that there is free will. Both coexist in the universe among the people. The reasons for determinism are many as believed by both the hard determinist and the compatibilists. One of the reasons is the apparent presupposition of modern science. If a better explanation is given, the better is the science. Another reason is neurology. An example of a kid wanting sweets is given. After the child eats the sweet, it gives him amino acid and as a result, he does not want it anymore. Human behavior is another example. It is predictable for example a person asking another individual about a certain place. The person will tell him. Advertising is another example. Advertising influences our behavior, choice and preference.

Libertarianism rejects the idea of determinism. They believe that there are diverging paths on the road. The issue with this kind of people is that they think there is a random act X or a determined X. they suppose that there is no free will or freedom at all. For example, a person who is in a relationship has a choice to marry or not. This leads to whether he will propose or not. If he proposes, he will stay with the fiancé or he may chose not to propose and chase the sorority girls. Libertarianism thinks that there is no reason a person can propose or not, or chase the sorority girls. Apart from Libertarianist who believes in indeterministially some could differ to compatibilist. The idea that Libertarianism thinks that there is a random X or determined X means that they believe something can change their influence or the decision of a person. This makes such people believe in both free will and determinism. A determined X means that the decision of that person has been caused by something. At the same time, they believe that the decision he is making comes from free will. Eventually, some of the Libertarianist will become compatibilist.

Moral luck is where something is beyond your control. It is thought to be where things influence your moral worth. There are many types of moral luck. One type of moral luck is consequential or resultant. This is luck as a result of actions. Circumstantial luck is a luck that results from situations that someone faces. Lastly, there is constitutive luck. This is luck that improves the way a person is or make up of that individual. Determinism problem may be related to constitutive and circumstantial moral luck in a number of ways. As seen earlier, determinism is where all events have a cause.

Circumstantial moral luck is where you are lucky because of a certain situation. A determinist would say that the event of that luck has a cause. Let’s take an example of a person who left Germany to work in Argentina. After the Nazi invasion, the person becomes a Nazi officer while the other individual becomes a businessperson. This will be termed as circumstantial luck because of the different region the two people live or the different circumstance. However, a determinist would say that the situation was inevitable. If the person had remained or left, the war would have happened anyway. A determinist would say it was predetermined but another would say it was luck. Determinism may be related to constitutive in that a person is made to be who he or she is since a young age. If a person turns to be a psycho, that will be as a result of the bringing which is constitutive luck or it was bound to happen for no reason.
