I would use green supply chain management in the army by coming up with green designs that reflects the design of military products and services that have certain level of environmental consciousness. I will attain this by engaging in systematic consideration of design issues like prevention of pollution, conserving military resources and proper management of wastes (Islam et al., 2017).
The primary intention will be to come up with product designs that are not restricted or hazardous materials. Therefore, the idea of green supply chain management can be achieved by making sure that all products that are purchased for used are able to meet some of the environmental standards that will be in place. The overall purchasing process will be used as a referencing platform for reflecting on some of the environmental preferences of the military organization. It should reflect to efforts such as reduction, reusing and recycling materials with the core aim of attaining environmental sustainability.
I will make sure that proper measures are in place to make sure that the suppliers are military products are provided with design instructions that can include environmental necessities like cost saving and energy saving. Far from that, I will apply green supply chain management by examining the current packaging measures and subsequently determine if changes are required (Sarkis, Zhu & Lai, 2011). The green packaging measures that will be implemented should help address all potential packaging issues including materials, shape and size. The idea of reverse logistics should also be brought on board to make sure that it not only supports the use of recycled materials; it should also have impact on packaging and distribution management like space utilization and easy handling. Furthermore, green supply chain management can also be implemented in the military unit by coming up with room for green warehousing. A great example of implementing this is to put mechanisms that can minimize environmental pollution and carbon footprint while at the same time making sure that the level of social responsibility has been increased in all warehousing practices.
