I am choosing to focus on Abraham Lincoln, who was working with the law and for the betterment of the United States of America long before his presidency began in 1861. Abraham Lincoln is of course best remembered for having ended slavery and being president during the Civil War, which is partially why I decided to focus on him. He also successfully navigated a war for the purpose of unity and set an example of strong character, leadership, integrity, and honesty in America. His presidency in particular is a big and noticeable milestone in American history and his face is a face that is frequently remembered as “one of the founding fathers,” and that is for a very good reason.
There are also many reports and a lot of evidence of him having severe depression. His 11 year old son died and Mary Todd Lincoln never recovered and became manically depressed. Lincoln lived a hard life at home and also very well may have had Marfan syndrome, a genetic muscle disorder, but he still successfully and strongly led the country.
