1. While reviewing environmental outcomes regarding climate change and infrastructure, one of the first and foremost aspects that shall be taken into account is renewables. Usually, big plants or other big infrastructure objects consume a lot of electricity. Therefore, when it comes to infrastructure it is useful to think of solar energy and install the lamps with the long-term effect. Reaching the goal of sustainability requires different approaches which were presented in the video.
2. When it comes to the decisions that have to be taken by authorities, they are often concerned with prices and current budget. Very often aspects that would be useful from the sustainable point of view would be neglected. Personally, I think that design flaws in Citigroup’s building in Manhattan do not fit the overall design of the area and could be handled in the more professional way. I would definitely do the evaluation once again and rethink the urban style and the utilitarian purpose of the thing that is being designed. However, I believe that such vulnerable issues lead to the illegal activities which might contradict the ethics of what authorities have to do in reality.
3. Without a doubt, Hyatt Regency Hotel walkway collapse was one of the worst cases where engineering mistakes were explicitly exposed. In fact, there was a problem with budget distribution as well. The video indicates that behind engineering tragedies one can find the factors where human lives are at stakes. The video which we watched in class showed a different a different perspective where design and the issues with construction were shown to the public. In my opinion, while comparing the two videos, the video on Hyatt Regency Hotel walkway collapse is a better example to understand issues from the point of view of engineering.
