The issue of minority groups being discriminated against is not new in America. The case of Muslim minority groups is even worse given the increased cases of terrorist activities blamed on supposedly Muslim-affiliated groups such as Al-Qaeda and ISIS. In his comment on the issue of color discrimination, Du Bois says that discrimination based on color is a serious global problem that has affected all continents including Africa, Asia, and America. Du Bois recognize the color-line issue as a form of class-based inequality, where people of different color are treated unequally when it comes to the class and respect in the society. Muslims in America are a minority group and have consequently been denied their rightful positions as citizens of the United States. This is evident in the administration of President Trump who has already signed an executive order banning people from six Muslim countries from coming into the U.S.

In his comment on the issue of veil, Du Bois has said that it is unfortunate that some groups of people have continued to be mistreated because of the mistakes of a few individuals. This is true in the case of Muslims in the United States, who have continually been mocked because of a few Muslims engaging in terrorist activities. When a Muslim terrorist attacks and creates people in Chicago, white native Americans do not perceive that is the individual who conducted the attack. Instead, they see it as an attack on American citizens by the Muslims.

Du Bois explains double consciousness as the source of “inward” power calling upon people to wake up and fight for their rights, usually after a long period of oppression and discrimination. He explains this by referring to the rise of the black American voice in a white-dominated society. Muslims in America have developed double conscienceless following long periods of being portrayed and terrorists. This has been seen following the increased growth of Muslim activist groups, developed to fights for the rights of Muslims in America.
