Moving from the Ukraine to the United States was a journey that changed my life. I gave me a new home and new opportunities that I never thought I would have before. I did not have a great deal of expectations about the journey at the time that it took place, however, when I think back on it now, I often wonder how different my future would have been if I had not taken the journey.
I relocated from the Ukraine to the United States when I was nine years old and very childish. I lived with my mom but not my dad. I did not know English. I didn’t like doctors. I didn’t like to go to school. I didn’t like to sleep. I did like to memorize poems and I often played in school concerts.
I wasn’t that nervous when my family set out of our journey. My mother, my mother’s sister and I arrived at the airport in the Ukraine wearing our best clothes because the trip was very important to us. Everything around the airport in the Ukraine was black and grey with little color. The only food they had was disgusting and the fish was smelly, therefore, I remained hungry for the trip. The people at the airport were not very friendly and did not want to help us. This did not stop us from taking our trip to America.
After arriving in America an experiencing the country for a short time, I found that my attitudes about some things had changed. I had turned ten years old and started to mature. I began to think about my future and what I wanted t be when I grew up. I started t like going to school and doing my homework assignments. I began to like getting sleep. One of the best things that I like about my migration to America is that my family is together; my dad is with use now.
