Of all the questions I am commonly given “But why teaching?” is the most frequent. Certainly there are many reasons for individuals to ponder why one would choose to make education one’s life’s work; teachers are often overworked and underpaid in comparison with other professions, the content that teachers are allowed to incorporate into their classrooms is greatly hindered by state and federally mandated content and exams, and in the wake of many school related tragedies involving gun violence it can be quite a dangerous profession. All of these criticisms are valid reasons as to why one would choose not to enter the field of education. I, however, have three main reasons as to why I teach. I would like to make a difference in the world by inspiring its next generation, I have a passion for helping children learn and grow to their fullest potential, and I want to be a transformative educator that impacts lives.
Today’s youth have limitless opportunities to excel and be anything that they would like to be. It is my prime objective to be an inspiration for these children and show them that they can be anything they want to be and do anything they want to do by working hard and always trying their best. I want to show them that because I have immense faith in their abilities to succeed that they should always believe that they can succeed. I never want today’s children to be afraid of taking on a challenge no matter how difficult it may be. I can do all of these things by making my classroom a positive learning environment that encourages creativity, hard work, and always striving to be your best self.
I truly have a passion for helping children learn and grow to their fullest potential. As a lifelong learner myself, a love of acquiring knew knowledge and skills was instilled in me by wonderful teachers that helped me grow into the person that I am today. I want to do the same for the students in my classroom. I hope that I will always make learning a fun, explorative, and engaging experience by varying up my instructional methods and catering to the various types of learning styles and modalities. Every child does learn differently and in order for them to fully ascend to the peaks of their potential, it is my duty as an educator to find and incorporate the best ways to teach them to get them to that point.
I want to be the kind of educator that grows and betters myself along with the ever transformative field of teaching. The classroom environment is not the same as it was fifty years ago. Some of the content is still the same, but the way that we deliver it is much different with the incorporation of modern technology. To be the kind of transformative and impactful educator that I strive to be, it is essential to always be abreast of new techniques or technology that can improve the education that my students receive.
My three main reasons for being an educator, inspiring the next generation, helping children learn and grow to their fullest potential, and being a transformative educator, are all interrelated. By being an inspirational educator, helping children grow to their fullest potential, and transforming my methods of instruction with the changing times, I can achieve my ultimate goal of being the kind of educator that impacts lives. I want to leave an indelible mark on the students that classroom. I want to be the kind of teacher that is remembered for making learning important to who they are as individuals in the same fashion that the teachers that inspired me to be a lifelong learner. I want them all to never give up on education and be lifelong learners themselves.
