The 1776 revolution was an uprising of American citizens against the oppressive Britain colony. The British had won its war with France and expanded its colonial theory in the US. However, the war left the colonial master which massive debts. England has no option but to direct that all its colonies had to pay taxes to cater for the debts. As such, increasing taxes were to benefit the British government significantly. However, such a negatively affect Americans thus prompting them to embrace a rebellion in an attempt to guard their interests.
Question 1
If I were a Native American born in 1776 in North Carolina USA, I would have I would have been a patriot for the revolution. Although there are revolutions that negatively impact on the lives of people, most of them positively impact lives after that. Particularly, in 1776 British colonies such as Boston and Massachusetts and North Carolina were required to pay taxes to the government to cater for the huge expenses for Great Britain’s war in North America. As such, the British parliament in Britain had passed laws that would force its colonies to remit taxes back home to facilitate the massive debts incurred (Morgan, 2012).
As an American Indian employee of the Tar Heel farm, I would have taken part in the war to fight against racial discrimination. During the colonial period, most of the people such as Native Americans and Africans were segregated from top jobs in plantations. While American citizens were given the first jobs, Native Americans and people of African origin only acted as laborers who only handled hard tasks. Therefore, supporting the rebellion would be the best choice to remedy the situation (Morgan, 2012).
Secondly, reimbursing taxes to Britain would have meant that plantation workers pay was to be slashed. Increasing taxes for the already poorly paid employees would further make them miserable. Thirdly, the governor of North Carolina during that period was utterly corrupt. Support the rebellion would have played a crucial part in preventing him from seizing peoples’ properties and overcharging taxes and other fees. Fourthly, the British colonial masters were the only one benefitting while the interest of American citizens was ignored. Supporting the war would be crucial in ensuring that the interest of American citizens was given due considerations. Lastly, fighting for independence to reject the oppressive British colonist was the only sure way of promoting social justice in both North Carolina and other British colonies (Bobrick, 2011).
Question 2
After the Anglo-French war between England, and France, England became victorious and commenced planning on how to expand its territory to embrace places that had been surrendered by France. As such, The British government through its legislature began making laws and regulation on how to govern the vast colonial territory. However, the victory of the war left England with many debts that it had to pay (Wood, 2012).
As a British army officer, the 1776 revolution by the American citizens was justified. The prime reason as to why the British military officers faced the revolution was because they embraced the anti-French policies that did not go down well with American citizens. The Anglo-French war has immensely changed things, but the British government did not anticipate the turn of events in coming up with new foreign policies. Most of the new policies were only meant to cover the debts that came from the war and to make increase Britain’s wealth. As such, the policies were only intended to benefit Britain and Americans were not going to benefit. Furthermore, Americans have already made up their mind that the time to gain their independence had arrived (Wood, 2012).
