The two health care authorities in my province are Mississauga Halton LHIN and Hamilton Niagara Haldimand Brant LHIN. These two authorities are tasked with planning and coordinating all health care activities in the areas they represent. The principal purpose of the Canada Health Act is to promote mental and physical health care of all Canadians and ensuring access to health services by eliminating all barriers including financial. The Act was passed into law on 1st April 1984. The objective of the healthcare policy is to promote healthcare in the country by eliminating all barriers to health care.
Examples of provincial healthcare legislation in Ontario are the Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA), the Excellent Care for All (ECFAA), and the Health Care Consent Act (HCCA). HCCA specifies the rules and procedures to be followed in obtaining consent to treatment. PHIPA specifies the rules for handling patient health information. The ECFAA promotes the delivery of quality health care for all Ontarians. One federal act that deals with privacy in the healthcare sector is the Privacy Act of 1983. The Act regulates how personal data is collected, used, and disclosed by federal institutions.

One provincial Act that deals with privacy in healthcare in Ontario is the Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA).
