The program including the curriculum comprises of various methods for learning the Arabic language. These are related to various sets of skills such as learning how to read, write, and speak in Arabic. Moreover, students will get a chance to get acquainted with the Arabic alphabet which will open them many ways for diving into the language, and that will be essential for progressing in the tongue, too. Also, learning new words and various phrases would be a key component of the discussion, too. Overall, the course will contain many various educational philosophies which will make the curriculum even more interesting to the public.
The first and foremost philosophy that is included in the curriculum is Montessori method. In fact, many believe that the language is something that marks a difference between human and people, and Montessori method truly reflects that. It stresses the importance of communication in boosting interpersonal relations in many respects. Thus, our role as Montessori educators is to make sure that the environments constructed on the previous language knowledge of children who attend schools. Our priority is that a child must and shall be able to speak on the given topic, especially when it concerns entities. The key element is the prepared environment which specifically meets the requirement of Montessori method. That is why the method aims to link a child to the given environment. Many sets of exercises that the method proposes will be referred to during our course so that the main goal would be ultimately achieved and children will truly sense their attachment to the environment of their origin. Exercises on Practice and Family chapter will also be included.
No less important is that children must be given key elements through which they will be likely to explore the environment. The Sensorial materials are those tools which will be widely used. They are primarily aimed at discovering at navigating while learning the language. As soon as a child receives a great amount of sensorial manipulation, words that would describe his experience will turn into some event comprising of different sequential elements.
Paulo Fiere is no less important actor who contributed to Arabic philosophy. We will much refer to his philosophy and approach while learning Arabic, too. For many, Friere is a truly influential figure. It would be noted throughout many stages of how our curriculum is designed, as he was the person who much inspired it. According to his methodology, children should ultimately become the creators of their own learning process. This is certainly something that our course aims to stimulate actively in many respects. The dialogue between a teacher and a student is an active component of this part of the process, which is also noted in the curriculum. Moreover, the values of this curriculum are to encourage children to ask questions as they were listening to a given teacher during the learning process. Furthermore, we do not perceive education as the tool to serve a particular worldview. Mostly, it aims to develop different views and opinions and should be initiated by students first. To us, education should aim to develop personalities of children so that they will be ready and prepare for adulthood in many respects, too.
Jane Addams is another important contributor to the educational culture and is widely respected. Her theory lies in the idea to focusing on building a more humane and democratic society, which includes such aspects as education for students across the whole country. Given that we strive for an inclusive education, her ideas will be widely incorporated into our curriculum, too. In other words, children will not only have a chance to learn the Arabic language but will also be able to focus on various dimensions of opportunities and cultural aspects, too. That is the major reason why her theory would be inclusive, too.
The curriculum was also largely inspired by Eisner with his theory of predictive validity. We will mainly refer to the theory and help students to identify factors that would enable them to perform better at schools. Ultimately, we will focus on broadening their horizons so that they will also be prepared for adulthood, meaning that it would be easier for them to adjust to social challenges. In that respect, the role of the teacher is limited to ‘transfer’ the knowledge, but its effectiveness would also be measured by the fact how students perform in the future. That is why it is critically important to take that element into account, too.
The ultimate goal of this curriculum is to make sure that the whole study process is meaningful and ensure that children actually receive the knowledge that they need. While following this course, every student will have an opportunity to prove that the process of the creative learning would enable them to perform better in life, so that eventually they will grow as responsible individuals thanks to Arabic language.
The values shared by Turtle Rock as a secular and independent school will also be transposed throughout the curriculum, too. Children will actually get a chance to experience the meaning of friendship, kindness, and learn what respect means to them in the current context. All of that complexity illustrates the commitment and the mission of the Turtle Rock School to be active agents of changes in education in many respects.
