The Pyramids at Giza in Egypt represent one of the most astounding wonders of the ancient world. Due to the complexity required to build them, and the limited amount of modern machinery available at the time, the pyramids and their construction have been considered a mystery in that the modern world is not fully aware of how they were constructed at that time in history. The Pyramids were built approximately 4,500 years ago when Egypt and its Pharaohs were one of the great and wealthy powers of the ancient world. The three pyramids, which are an elaborately built burial complex, were built during a period when ancient Egypt built many tombs and monuments. This period occurred during 2550 to 2490 BCE (National Geographic, 2018). There have been multiple theories regarding the mysteries of the pyramid and how they were constructed. Some of the more outlandish and disregarded theories include the idea that they were built by aliens who came from a more advanced society.

While obviously this is not true, there are other theories regarding how they were likely constructed. One theory focused on the use of slave labor, including Egyptian slaves. This idea considered that slaves were dispensable and therefore the architects did not worry how many were killed struggling to build the monuments. This is not likely because strength was required to move the stones, and slaves were considered valuable at the time. The more likely answer is that the monuments were built using ramps and pulley systems, as well as the Nile River to move the stones. It is also likely that those who built these were highly disciplined, well-educated, and well-cared for to allow them to complete their tasks (National Geographic, 2018).

Recent archaeological evidence has supported the idea that ramps were used and that the builders were not slaves. Just this year, it was announced that archaeologists at the site had discovered evidence that a ramp had existed at the site. Furthermore, the ramp showed evidence of how the stones were likely moved into place. There were stairs on the ramp, which would allow easier access to various parts of the building site. There were also a series of what appeared to be postholes on the ramp. The archaeologists believe that due to access from the stairs and with the use of postholes, the builders were able to haul the stones into their location at a quicker pace than previously thought. Previously, it was believed that the stones had to be hauled behind the stone movers, which would take a large amount of time to do so. While the moving of the stones would still require a large number of people to exert a tremendous amount of labor, the amount of force needed to move the stones would not be as great as once believed. This would allow quicker construction of the pyramids. The time period of construction was part of the mystery because it was known that they were built in a short period of time when a tremendous amount of construction had been completed (The Guardian, 2018).

It is also possible that the builders used the great River Nile to help ship the stones, which would be easier than moving them across the desert. The quarries at Turah provided the stones. This quarry is located halfway between Cairo and Helwan. It would be quicker to allow the natural power of the river to move them rather than to drag them. This would also help to explain how the pyramids were built with such rapid speed (Robinson, 2017). These theories help to indicate that the ancient builders essentially used their brains as well as their muscles. They worked smarter, not harder. While hard work was most certainly involved, they limited the hard work to the bare minimum. No aliens were needed for this.
