The representation of Cinderella in the Disney world conveys one of the most common perceptions of Cinderella known from fairytales and transformed into the pop-culture. At the same time, the Cinderella known from the Ever After movie also conveys one of the images from the pop culture. However, the representation and the perception of Cinderella from Disney and from the movie differs significantly, given the time frame when it was filmed.
As mentioned above, one of the biggest similarities revolves around a typical representation of the character known from the fairytales. At the same time, one may encounter different interpretations of the Cinderella, given that the Disney Cinderella was first filmed in the 1950s. The genre differs, too. In particular, the Disney Cinderella was filmed as an animated musical fantasy film whereas the Cinderella from the Ever After was a character in a human body with the little amount of animation. Besides that, the movie ‘Ever After’ had an initial objective while being filmed. Hence, the image of the contemporary Cinderella and the take on the events from the current perspective differs significantly, too. Not only the director decided to give up on the use of animation, but the story development moved in a different direction than a classic fairy tale, too.
Historically, the role of the two pieces was rather different, too. When the Disney Cinderella was filmed, it was a great chance for the directors to reconnect with the European film-makers after the World War II. On the contrary, the movie did not have such objective, and the directors wished to provide a new look into the well-known story.
Overall, the major similarity between the two stories lies in the plot of the well-known fairy tale. However, the way the interpretation was presented demonstrates significant differences between the two pieces.
